Machine Operators

Elgin Industries seeks qualified applicants for the position of Machine Operators – These positions perform a variety of entry level, semi-skilled and/or a skill task, Operates, adjusts, and troubleshoots production equipment.

Operates basic manufacturing equipment in the machining department to fabricate metal parts by performing the following duties.

Schedule

Monday – Thursday: Full Time: 1st shift (6am -4:30pm), 2nd shift (4:30pm – 3am); Part Time: Morning (7am -11PM), Afternoon (12pm – 4pm).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Loads and operates assigned equipment.
  • Understands and follows work instructions at each assigned workstation.
  • Monitors process for quality; makes decisions on starting/stopping process according to quality of product.
  • Performs visual and level 4 quality inspections during production, using instruments such as micrometers, calipers, etc. to ensure parts are good if not to scrap parts.
  • Makes offset adjustments based on quality of product.
  • Performs basic tooling changes based on supervisor instructions.
  • Cross-trains as needed on other equipment.
  • Maintains records as instructed.

Other Job Functions

  • Safely handles scrap during and after production run.
  • Keeps area clean and organized in a 5S manner.
  • May assists in training of other employees as required.
  • Assists other departments to run production when need it.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Material Handler– Distribution Department

Moves all incoming and outgoing freight to and from appropriate designated areas by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors battery usage daily.
  • Removes material from inventory and distributes it to required machines. 
  • Returns unused material back to inventory.
  • Moves product to appropriate areas based on supervisor instructions.
  • Pulls and delivers product from racking, bins, and storage areas.
  • Wraps and weights packages and skids.
  • Loads trucks as necessary.
  • Drives forklift
  • Reports any forklift malfunction to supervisor.
  • Uses the Warehouse Inventory System
  • Uses the scale to weight skids.

  • Stacks raw material in storage area and scans it into inventory.

  • Use the Warehouse Inventory System
  • How to calibrate and use the weight scale.
  • Operate a variety of machines such as skin packer, auto bagger, etcher and others.
  • Manually consolidate stack skids to effectively utilize the warehouse floor space and process it in the WIS.
  • Process special orders based on specific customer requirements
  • Examine items produced to determine if they meet specifications, before and after packaging.
  • Gather orders and parts
  • Verifies quantity, and labeling of products and items of merchandise ready for shipment.
  • Pack orders in appropriate shipping containers.
  • Verify correct shipping labeling
