Control Room Operator

Elgin Industries is looking for a Control Room Operator to join our dynamic team located in Elgin, Illinois!

As a Control Room Operator you will tend furnaces that perform hardening, carburizing, annealing and tempering of steel. Perform Secondary Operations, such as shot blasting, tumbling, racking, straightening, preparing loads and washing.

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Operates all heat treat furnaces.
• Operates parts washers.
• Operates shot blasters.
• Operates tumblers.
• Operates forklifts, overhead cranes.
• Handles related paperwork and sign-offs.
• Assists other heat treaters as required.
• Makes and brakes down loads.
• Performs minor maintenance as required.
• Fills in for absent employees.

REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. Required to stand; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and/or move over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
